Loris Karius is acclimatising to the Premier League by adopting rugby contact sessions in training!
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed his summer-signing keeper is put through his paces by position coach John Achterberg using rugby pads, such is the intense physicality of English football.
Even in his native Germany, the 23-year-old has never experienced such rough and tumble in matches.
And after a run of bruising contests against Manchester United, West Brom and Crystal Palace , his manager revealed the measures they are taking.
“Simon [Mignolet, Liverpool’s other keeper] was the same. John Achterberg usually does it with his hands. Of course, that’s important. Different things you have to do as a coach,” Klopp explained.
“First he has to learn the technique, then you have to adapt to the real circumstances — six, seven players around him.
“No-one gets out of your way. It is completely the opposite.
“That’s not a specific preparation for Crystal Palace [who Liverpool beat on Saturday]. That’s for goalkeepers in the Premier League.”
